  3. Physical Examination 
  4. ‚Ä¢ Inspection of the oral and nasal cavities, using mirrors and telescopes.
  5. ‚Ä¢ Examination of suspicious lesions with the fingers (palpation), as well as examination of the back of the tongue.

  7. Blood and Other Tests 
  8. ‚Ä¢ Epstein-Barr (EB) virus antibody measurements may be helpful in diagnosing hidden nasopharyngeal primary
  9.   cancer in patients with metastatic cancer in the cervical Iymph nodes .

  11. Imaging 
  12. ‚Ä¢ X-rays of the sinuses and skull. 
  13. ‚Ä¢ CT and MRI scans, barium esophogram, laryngogram and chest x-ray.

  15. Endoscopy and Biopsy
  16. ‚Ä¢ Biopsy of suspicious lesions. 
  17. ‚Ä¢ In cases of metastatic cancer in cervical lymph nodes, biopsy of apparently normal tissues in the tonsils,
  18.   throat and nasopharynx may be necessary to discover the site of origin.
